Gear

I left home in October 2017 with the gear list below. This is the first time I am travelling with front panniers, so I will likely tune my setup during the trip. Most of the gear I have collected during past trips, some new items are the tent and some of the electronics. I received a silk liner and a camera mount as a parting gift from friends, thanks!

  • Bicycle:

  • Left rear pannier (kitchen, food, first aid, spares):
    • Trangia mini stove, lighter (and a spare), DIY wind screen
    • Plastic mug, spork and spoon with long handle
    • First aid kit (including multi-use soap)
    • Toilet paper and sponge.
    • Second spare inner tube, chain oil, gaffa tape, zip ties.
    • Foldable washing bowl (Camp-Gear 12L) and washing line
    • 2x platypus 1L water bottle
    • High vis vest
    • This leaves more than half of the pannier to be packed with food.
  • Right rear pannier (sleeping+clothes):
    • Thermarest neoair xlite inflatable sleeping pad (incl. patch kit)
    • Cumulus 250 sleeping quilt
    • Silk sleeping bag liner (Decathlon)
    • Inflatable pillow (Decathlon)
    • Petzl tikka xp head torch
    • Sleeping: warm socks, long sleeved shirt and leggings.
    • Toiletries: tooth brush and paste, glasses and retainer, contact lenses retainer and fluid, spare contact lenses, ear plugs, face mask.
    • MSR packtowl (used as a rag), sea to summit towel and washing cloth.
    • Off the bicycle clothing: sandals (Quechua Arpenaz 100), trousers, running shorts, icebreaker under wear (one pair), shirt, down puffy jacket.
    • Spare cycling clothes: socks, bib short + extra short sleeved cycling jersey.
    • Warmer cycling clothes: long sleeved cycling jersey, arm warmers, leg warmers and buf.

  • Rear rack (top, attached using bungee cords):

  • On person:
    • Mountainbike shoes (SPD),
    • Socks, bib shorts, base layer, short sleeved cycling jersey, cycling gloves (short fingers), shades and cap or helmet.
    • Cycling jersey pockets: sun screen, smart phone (OPO 3) and ear buds.
